Maternal-fetal medicine specialists are obstetricians with three additional years of training in high-risk pregnancy.
An MFM Doctor does the following:
- Manages the mother’s existing health problems and their impact on the pregnancy
- Addresses complications developed during pregnancy or childbirth
- Conducts tests to check fetal growth and development
- Checks for birth defects and genetic disorders
- Diagnoses and manages birth defects, heart problems, and blood disorders in a developing baby
- Provides recommendations for future pregnancies
